Nach dem großen Erfolg der Flippermania 2015 mit Chris Granner, 2016 mit Jim Patla und 2018 mit David Thiel haben wir uns entschlossen, das Ganze wieder aufleben zu lassen. Die Flippermania ist ein Flipper-Event ohne Turnier, dafür mit viel Zeit für das gemeinsame Flippern, für Gespräche rund um den Flipper und natürlich für den Stargast.

Umso mehr freuen wir uns, dass wir Doug Watson wieder für uns gewinnen konnten.

Er ist bekannt für seine Artworks auf über 30 Flipperautomaten. Als Künstler deckt Doug das gesamte Spektrum der Flipper-Entwicklung ab. Als er bei APP anfing, wurde das Artwork der Flipper noch extern erstellt und quasi nachträglich auf den Flipper gebracht. Als er Mitte der 90er bei WMS aufhörte, wurden Flipper schon lange im Team entwickelt, so dass das Motiv und das Artwork direkt in das Gerät einflossen und der Künstler Teil des Teams war.

Werke von Doug Watson, die viele kennen, sind z.B. Panthera und Barracora aus der APP-Zeit, Black Knight 2000, Terminator 2, The Getaway und Indiana Jones aus der WMS-Zeit, um nur einige Flipper zu nennen. Doug ist heute Professor für Bildende Kunst in San Francisco. Seine Vorträge auf der Pinball Expo sind beeindruckend und wir wollen ihm die Bühne geben, uns zu begeistern und Fragen zu stellen.
Wenn ihr Exponate von Doug mitbringen möchtet, wie z.B. Merchandising-Artikel, Bauteile, Fotos oder sogar Flipperautomaten, damit ihr ein Foto mit ihm machen könnt und er Dinge signiert: Bitte bringt alles mit. So schaffen wir eine tolle Kulisse und zeigen Doug, wie vielfältig seine Arbeit ist und wie sehr wir sie schätzen.

After the great success of Flippermania 2015 with Chris Granner, 2016 with Jim Patla and 2018 with David Thiel, we have decided to revive the whole thing. Flippermania is a pinball event without a tournament, but with plenty of time to play pinball together, chat about pinball and, of course, enjoy the star guest.

We are all the more pleased that we have been able to win Doug Watson for us again.

He is known for his artwork on over 30 pinball machines. As an artist, Doug covers the entire spectrum of pinball development. When he started at APP, the artwork for the pinball machines was created externally and applied to the pinball machine as an afterthought. By the time he left WMS in the mid-90s, pinball machines had long been developed within the team, so the motif and artwork were incorporated directly into the machine and the artist was part of the team.

Works by Doug Watson that many people know include Panthera and Barracora from the APP era, Black Knight 2000, Terminator 2, The Getaway and Indiana Jones from the WMS era, to name just a few pinball machines. Doug is now a professor of fine arts in San Francisco. His presentations at the Pinball Expo are impressive and we want to give him the stage to inspire us and ask questions.

This will create a great backdrop and show Doug how diverse his work is and how much we appreciate it.
